I wouldn't mind any of 'em!

Not got pics of most of mine, nothing special there anyway, I suppose the best of them is a 1970's CSL 335 copy.
I just use this most of the time. It's one of mine :)

The white les paul is a Kyper.I used it when we first got the doctorz together 5 years ago. It's what we call aback door epiphone,in other words made in the same factory but with a different neck and a bespoke name put on it.I've put all wilkinson parts on it including pick ups and it is rather sweet sounding. I really like that guitar Steve ! What is it?
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: Stevie M on October 10, 2010, 12:41:18 PM
Thanks Lippy :) It's one I made and didn't want to part with. It's an Iroko body with Ash stripes and side dots ( can't see 'em in this pic!), Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard, MOP markers, bone nut, cow horn pup surrounds. Electrics are---Single neck/single mid/humbuck bridge, 1Vol, 2 Tone, the 3 mini toggles are to switch each pup on/off. I'm thinking I'll change those a bit, when I get the time, as in putting 4 wires on the HB with a push/pull tone ( or 3 way toggle) to split the coils in some way.

Nice guitar Steve. It looks great and you must have spent some time making it. Do you gig with it? Like to hear it sometime.

Thanks Johnny :)  Yep, took a bit of time, not sure how long. I'm making a rough log of the hours it takes to make each one now.
Nope, I don't gig at all, never have, love to sometime. I'm trying to find someone to play with down my way 'cos there's a blues club 'bout 30 odd miles away where we could play------bloody scary thought though!!!!!!!

I used this on my first post, 'a gentle noodle'. It was using all 3 pups with just a bit of reverb recorded on the MBR. I'm working on one to put up where I change the pups part way through.

Here's a Lap steel of mine too. It's American Black Walnut/Ash. The fret markers are Celtic designs done in pyrography ( woodburning). I made the nut//control plate/string retainer out of brass, the bridge is brass/oak/bone. Hours in total worked out at about a week or so, spread over about a month.

Yep, nice set-up. Could do with better shot though, can't quite work out what the pic is on the wall :D

No point me putting anything up where I work, it's just a laptop and MBR at the kitchen table, so has to go away everytime I'm done with it  :'(.( Hopefully should get a bit better soon, our daughter's moved out (again) so may be able to use her old bedroom, with a PC set up, and just leave it all out all the time!!! Bliss!!!!!!

This was initially called the Saturn then Tom Anderson started showing different models (partscasters so to speak) to various artists. Townshend loved it and wanted some changes. It became known as the PT. Townshend toured with these in the early 80s. First used on the Who's It's Hard tour.

Kick ass! I meant to ask you bro,..how do the pups sound? Are they dark sounding (muddy) or do they cut well?  The reason why I ask is that ever time I play a les paul or anything with humbuckers,.they always sound muddy to me or dark sounding. It's probably that I'm so used to playing a Strat,.but what's weird man,.is my start has a hot rails in it,.but it has a more cut through sound then my les paul. Maybe I just need to EQ the paul differently then the strat.

Johnny, there's no mud at all. Actually, this is the first guitar I own with these pups (Evo / Tone Zone). I was going to upgrade my RG1570 to these exact pickups. I actually prefer these to the old Duncan '59 & JB combos. Very "alive" sounding pickups. You can always buy one or both aftermarket and try it out in an existing guitar you know.

Man, I want one of these Charvels so bad, thanks for fuelling my GAS guys  :(, LOL :-*
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.

I saw a shop on ebay selling these Charvel's in parts.

As silly as it may sound I was kinda hoping the one with the pickguard was not like a strat underneath the pickguard but it is.
I like both of the styles. Woulda been nice if you could just whip the pickguard on and off like I was thinking.

I assumed they would be like that as surely it would make the manafacturing process simpler.

Johnny try out the Air Zone also. Depends what sound you are going but some people think the TZ is quite harsh sounding.
I've had no experience with a Tone Zone though to be honest.

However you should maybe check out Sound of Sin pickups on ebay for the Axis Clones and see how they compare, Probably get a whole set for price of the single Dimarzio.
Handwound.

Doesn't compete with some of the bad boys you gentlemen are sporting, but it's a little tough in the lefty market... between the MIM strat, the TVYellow and the LP copy, I am pretty happy with the sound options, none the less.
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: WIG on January 11, 2011, 03:32:06 PM
What a dope... just realized that my TVYellow and Bass didn't make it into this photo???? Child neglect... they'll have to be added later.  TVYellow is a LP Jr. copy with P90's that sound more like P100's IMO... LOVE IT!!!
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: Pete on January 11, 2011, 03:49:10 PM
You know, Wig, you should have done like I did and play righty. In fact the only thing I must do lefty is write. So much easier buying guitars, golf clubs, etc.
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: WIG on January 11, 2011, 05:47:47 PM
Tried... could never get it together.  Worked at it for a year and it just got worse and worse.  I gave up.  Then I played someone elses lefty and I could do more in a 1/2 hour than I accomplished in a year... it also felt 'normal' or natural.  It still was 'learning to play guitar', getting your hands to do things your not used to, but I was WAY more encouraged.
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.

So famous lefties playing righty...

Gary Moore is one of them.
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: Pete on January 12, 2011, 09:54:33 AM
Wig, I guess that's it, you know? It never felt comfortable for me to play lefty. I play all sports righty, in fact I need only write with my left hand. I could do so with my right hand but it'd be hard to read the chicken shit writing. This might be a result of the nuns hitting my fingers with the blackboard pointing stick in kindergarten and 1st grade when I attended parochial school. They were allowed to hit children then and they also believed lefties were "evil." Supposedly Lucifer is left-handed. Oh well...

Yeah, I was still unbiased by kindegarten so my mom sent me in as a righty figuring it would be easier for me in life.  Turns out, I evolved to be so left handed dominant that there are a good few things that I just cannot do at all righty.  Most things though I can do equally well with both... writing, eating, drawing, batting, throwing, catching.  I have more power as a righty because I was brought up as a righty in school.  I can only play hockey lefty, snowboard, skateboard... lay ups in basketball.  There is a way now to determine your dominant eye, which indicates lefty or righty, and by dominant eye as the end all, a lot of righty's would be lefties.  It's more split down the middle based on that... so you have to wonder how much of it is conditioning based on a right handed world?  Who knows...

Bottom line is that, if I had never tried playing guitar lefty... I would never have played at all.  Now that I have for about 8 or 9 years, there are times where I think I could find more success as a righty then I had first time around, but.......... who the hell wants to start over from scratch on purpose now???  I think I could  do the 'reverse engineering' that wouldn't have been available before (not having a reference point to start from, in this case playing lefty) to get much fiurther than I did on my first try.  If I ever came across a righty guitar for free... believe me, I'd keep it and give it a try to some extent, just out of pure curiosity to see if that's true or not.

New Laney Cub 12R and Digitech RP500. The latter I got last week from the 'Bay very cheap. I'm loving this setup.

Really nice little setup Pete. How do ya like the Laney? Is that a 12" speaker in the cab or 10? Very cool man!
Title: Re: Post your gear pics here.
Post by: Pete on June 30, 2011, 05:06:46 AM
Thanks, Johnny. The Laney sports a 12" Celestion and sounds fantastic at either .75w or it's full 15w. The latter provides some overhead for sparkly cleans at a decent volume. The tube breakup on either will just make you cry. Great amp and light too. I'm amazed how big this little piece of kit sounds.

On a bit of an unrelated note, I was contemplating ordering a pre-wired pickguard kit from Dimarzio loaded with Velvet Blues pups. Doing some reading on other forums, I read how some people were getting better sound from their tex-mex pickups playing with different height adjustments. I followed one piece of advice and lowered the neck and middle to about the height of a nickle and the bridge pickup slightly higher. It was also suggested to roll the tone back to about 6-7 and slightly roll the volume. I found the sounds to be very pleasing after making these adjustments. Even sounds better, less harsh for a strat, on the lead pup with gain - very nice sounding!

As for the RP500, I have added into the user banks a nice compliment of settings to achieve, to some degree, the effects and tones of Gilmour, Hendrix, and others. I have models built around a classic Blackface, Hiwatt, and Marshall. They sound really good. I mostly use the RP500 in pedalboard mode when playing through the amp. I really like the sound of the Laney and just want to add different reverbs, delay, compression, etc. I have two banks set up for such playing and it works very well. I don't play live but I can see this being extremely useful and versatile set the way I have it.
