Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:35:51 AM »
Hey guys! I think it's time to me to post a cover on this new forum!
I had some fun with Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker today. I haven't listened to the original for a while, and purposely didnt listen to it before recording this, so I'd be more or less forced to give it a little bit of my own twist.

This is a kick-ass rendition of the tune! I have to ask, what are some of the particulars of how you recorded this? What program? Interface? I like to know these things and I think it would be beneficial for others as well as it helps gain some insight into how other lay it down and what they use. Killer sound and nice production. Again, how did you lay the vocals down? I know, too many questions. Just call me curious George! LOL!

First of all, thanks for all the nice compliments! I had a lot of fun just rocking out to this one!  ;D
And thanks for embedding the player, Johnny. I couldnt figure out how to do that myself  ???

stingx, this is how I recorded:
I use the line6 guitar port for everything. For vocals I plug a condenser mic into a little preamp, and then into the guitar port. Guitars and bass just straight into the guitar port.

I use reaper to record, and ezdrummer for drums. The nashville kit, wich I really like. Especially with the "crunched ambience" mixer preset.

For this tune I started by recording rythm guitars. One 100% panned left, and one 100% panned right. Then bass, in the middle.
Then I puzzled together some different drumloops in ezdrummer, added guitar solos and vocals.

I used one vocal preset on my preamp and added some compression in the guitar port interface. I also did something new, for me, by using some delay on the vocals, instead of reverb.

And that's about it.
